Sports injuries are wounds sustained during athletic endeavours or physical activity. They may result through misuse of a particular body part or an acute trauma (such as rolling an ankle while landing from a jump) (i.e. shin pain while or after running).
Poor training techniques, inappropriate equipment, a lack of physical preparedness prior to undertaking an intense exercise programme or sport, or an inadequate warm-up or stretching regimen are additional typical causes of these types of injuries. In addition to treating sports injuries, physiotherapists can educate patients on how to avoid getting hurt in the first place and how to resume their previous sport or activity safely.
